Spicy Pork BBQ

 Ingredients (enough marinade for 2 batches):

  • 1.5 lbs pork shoulder or pork belly, cut into thick slices for skewer
  • 1 small onion, cut into chunks
  • 1 small apple or pear, cut into chunks
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tsp minced ginger
  • 1/4 cup gochujang (Korean red pepper paste)
  • 2-3 Tbsp gochugaru (Korean red pepper powder)
  • 3 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp mirin
  • 1 Tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • (optional) 2 Tbsp Korean BBQ sauce
Instructions
Mix all ingredients in a food processor and marinate the meat overnight.  Grill on charcoal grill using grill pan. Alternative method is to skewer the meat and arrange over a baking pan with a little water at the bottom to prevent drippings from burning.  Roast in 450ºF oven for about 15 minutes or until done.
